Maharashtra - Marathi, Adivasi, Urban: Maharashtrians are ethnically heterogeneous. The Bhil, Warli, Gond, Korku, Govari, and dozens of other tribal communities—all officially designated as Scheduled Tribes—live on the slopes of the Western Ghats and the Satpura Range. Marathas and Kunbis (descendants of settlers who arrived from the north about the beginning of the 1st century ce) make up the majority of the remainder of the people of Maharashtra.
